There are many reasons to love spring and summer. You might like the warmer weather, longer days or fun activities like swimming and biking. At Homestead Gardens, we get excited for grilling. Cooking outdoors is a great way to enjoy these sunnier seasons, and in our opinion, food just tastes better grilled. If you're looking for some tasty ideas to try out this summer, consider Homestead Gardens' five favorite foods to grill and then invite some friends over for a fun BBQ.

5 of Homestead Gardens favorite things to grill:

1. Meat, Meat and More Meat

From chicken to ribs, meat is a must for grilling season. Go simple with a platter of burgers and brats, or put your grilling skills to the test by trying something a little more complex, like a T-bone steak. If you're feeling creative, grill meatballs!

2. Summer Veggies

Grilling isn't just for meat-eaters. Put together a healthy side dish by throwing corn on the cob or a red pepper on the grill. The crunchy texture and smoky flavor give vegetables an entirely different taste that even picky eaters will love.

To enjoy your grilled veggies even more, grown your own! You can pick up some fresh vegetables and herbs that are ready for planting at Homestead Gardens' annuals department.

3. Pizza

When you're tired of grilled veggies and chicken breast, mix it up with a pizza. Grill your dough first (be sure to brush olive oil on the crust) and after marks appear, add your toppings. Place your pizza back on the rack for a few minutes to melt the cheese and warm up the sauce. To get your crust perfectly crispy, be sure to use our handy pizza stones when grilling.

4. Lobster and Clams

We love seafood – how about you? Instead of just grilling your basic fish like tilapia, however, you can step it up a notch with a delicious lobster or appetizing clams. Clams might look sophisticated, but they are actually very easy to grill. When they are ready to eat, the clams open up!

5. A Quesadilla

Try making your favorite Mexican meal on the grill. While frying pans work fine, a grill helps you cook the quesadilla until it's perfectly crispy. And for a side dish? Try grilled avocados.

Ready for grilling season, but don't have a grill? Come check out our grill showroom at Homestead Gardens – it's the largest in the area! Whether you prefer gas, charcoal, wood burning or infrared grills, you can find the perfect grill from trusted brands including Weber, Big Green Egg and more.
