Holiday decorating shouldn’t feel like it’s just another item to check off your to-do list in an already busy season. This year, keep your decor simple with garden-themed decorating. Whether you prefer rustic, traditional, or modern Christmas decor, incorporating natural elements is a great way to bring color and life to your home this holiday season. Here are some of our favorite ways to bring the outside in when you deck the halls.

Natural Ornaments

Making ornaments from items found in nature is a fun, festive family project. Dried mushrooms make wonderful ornaments. Did you know that you can draw on the artist’s bracket mushroom (Ganoderma applanatum)? Even simple twigs can be used to create ornaments. Use hot glue or tie them into stars, snowflakes, or Christmas tree shapes.

The deep-green hue and velvet texture of moss is also perfect for winter holiday decor. Add moss to clear glass ball ornaments for a woodland feel, or use moss to create topiary ornaments or centerpieces.

Spiced orange and apple pomander ornaments are also fun and simple to make. They also make your house smell wonderful. All you need are apples, oranges, cloves, and a few cinnamon sticks. Press the cloves into the fruit in interesting patterns. Dry orange and apple slices in an oven or dehydrator to create lightweightornaments.

Centerpieces & Table Decor

Fresh greens are perfect for creating sophisticated, festive table settings. Use a vase of fresh greens as a simple centerpiece or tie up cloth napkins with twine, using a small accent sprig of greenery as a thoughtful detail.

Live plants also make excellent table centerpieces. Small potted trees, cyclamen, poinsettias, rosemary trees, and Shooting Star Hydrangeas are all great options. Adding moss around the plant’s base is a nice holiday touch.
